Service Guidelines

ARO's Materials of Construction:

Polypropylene: Poly pumps are economical and suitable for many applications. They provide high fatigue endurance but only fair abrasion resistance.   Polypropylene pumps are light grey in color.
Groundable Acetal: This is excellent for flammable materials, as it is truly a groundable non-metallic pump. Electrostatic buildup is transferred through the polymer to a single grounding point.  Acetal pumps are dark grey while the Acetal balls are orange.
KYNAR (PVDF): Kynar can handle most fluids not compatible with polypropylene or Acetal. This pump is excellent with Acids, Bases and Petroleum Based Oils. Kynar provides fair abrasion resistance.  The 1/2" Kynar pumps are white in color, while all other sizes are black.
Aluminum: Aluminum is an economical all-purpose metallic pump. It works well with oils and water-based fluids. However, aluminum should not be used with halogenated hydrocarbons.
Stainless Steel: This pump is often recommended when pumping corrosive materials, however it offers low abrasion resistance.
Cast Iron: These pumps offer superior abrasion resistance and are an alternative in applications where fluid compatibility with aluminum is a problem. Cast Iron will however rust when exposed to water-based fluids
Teflon®: Teflon® is chemically compatible with any fluid. It has zero moisture absorption, but also has a limited flex life. Teflon® has no memory and will not handle abrasive fluids as well as other materials.  Teflon® materials will be white in color
Santoprene®: Santoprene is a blend of EPDM and Polypropylene. It works well with abrasive fluids, as well as sulfuric acids, MEK and many mild bases. Santoprene is often an economical alternative to Teflon®.  Santoprene materials will be tan in color.
Geolast®: Geolast is good with water, oils, mild acids and abrasives. It is an excellent general purpose material made of a blend of Nitrile and Polypropylene.   Geolast materials will be black in color.
Buna-N: Buna is an economical material that offers good flex life. It is compatible with water, petroleum based oils, and many fluids.  Buna materials are black with a red mark.
Neoprene: Neoprene is heat resistant and has good resilience and tensile strength. It offers excellent flex life at a moderate cost. Neoprene performs well with oils, mild acids and some abrasives.  Neoprene materials are black with a green mark.
Viton®: Viton® offers good chemical resistance and temperature ratings. It is compatible with blended or straight fuels and many chemicals not covered by Buna or Neoprene.  Viton® materials are black with a yellow mark.
Hytrel: Hytrel is excellent for pumping abrasive fluids. It is used with ceramic slip, Acetone, oils and mild acids.  Hytrel materials will be cream in color.
EPR: EPR has great high temperature characteristics. It can be used with some very aggressive chemicals.  EPR materials will be black with a blue mark.
Urethane: Urethane has excellent abrasion resistance. It is used with ceramic slip, slurries, and in mining applications.  Urethane balls are red, while the other urethane materials are clear.
